How to Check AI Generated Content

Artificial intelligence has changed the way we create content. Today, anyone can use an AI writing tool to create articles, blog posts, product descriptions, emails, social media posts, and many other types of content within seconds. While this can save a lot of time, it also creates an important question: How can we check AI generated content?

In my experience, checking content is not only about using an AI detector. A good check requires reading the content carefully, looking at the writing style, checking facts, and understanding whether the information actually makes sense.

AI generated content can sometimes look completely natural. At the same time, even well written AI content may contain incorrect information, repeated ideas, or statements that sound convincing but are not supported by reliable sources. This is why I believe that AI detection should be treated as one part of the overall content checking process.

What Is AI Generated Content?

AI generated content is text, images, audio, video, or other material created with the help of artificial intelligence software. For written content, AI tools can produce paragraphs, complete articles, summaries, introductions, product descriptions, and even technical explanations.

Many people use AI tools as writing assistants. There is nothing unusual about using technology to improve productivity. The important thing is understanding the content before publishing or submitting it.

When I check AI generated content, I do not immediately assume that every unusual sentence was written by AI. Human writers can also have repetitive writing styles, unusual sentence structures, or grammar problems. Therefore, I prefer using several signs together instead of depending on one indicator.

Why Should You Check AI Generated Content?

There are several reasons to check AI generated content before using it.

The first reason is accuracy. AI tools can sometimes provide incorrect information. This is especially important when an article discusses technology, finance, education, health, laws, or other topics where incorrect information can create problems.

The second reason is originality. AI generated text may follow common patterns and can sometimes sound similar to other content available online.

Another reason is readability. AI writing can sometimes be grammatically correct but still feel unnatural. It may use unnecessary words, repeat the same point, or provide explanations that are much longer than necessary.

For me, checking content is therefore not simply about asking whether AI wrote it. The bigger question is whether the content is accurate, useful, original, and suitable for the intended audience.

Look for Repetitive Writing

One of the first things I look for is repetition.

AI generated content can repeat the same idea several times using slightly different wording. For example, an article might explain the importance of a topic in the introduction and then repeat almost the same explanation in several later sections.

This does not prove that the content was created by AI because humans can also repeat themselves. However, excessive repetition can be a useful signal that the content needs further review.

A good article should move naturally from one idea to another. Every section should add something useful instead of simply restating what has already been said.

Check the Writing Style

Another useful method is to examine the overall writing style.

AI writing often follows predictable structures. It may start with a general introduction, move into several similarly formatted headings, and finish with a broad conclusion. This structure is not automatically bad, but extremely predictable writing can be worth reviewing.

I also look at sentence variety. Natural human writing usually contains a mixture of short and long sentences. The writer may also use personal observations, examples, opinions, or specific experiences.

AI content can sometimes feel too polished or generic. It may explain something correctly but without giving the article a distinctive personality.

That is why adding personal experience and practical examples can make content more useful and natural.

Use an AI Content Detector

AI content detectors can also be useful when checking AI generated content.

These tools analyze writing patterns and provide an estimate of whether text may have been generated by artificial intelligence. Some tools examine sentence structure, word patterns, predictability, and other characteristics.

However, I would not treat an AI detector result as absolute proof.

AI detectors can produce false positives. In other words, they may identify human written content as AI generated. They can also produce different results for the same piece of content.

For this reason, I use AI detectors as supporting tools rather than final judges. If a detector says that content may be AI generated, I would investigate the writing further instead of immediately making a conclusion.

Check Facts and Sources

Fact checking is one of the most important steps.

AI tools can generate information that sounds confident even when it is incorrect or outdated. This is sometimes called an AI hallucination.

When I review an article, I check important claims against reliable sources. If the article mentions statistics, dates, names, studies, laws, companies, or technical information, I pay particular attention to those details.

For example, if an article says that a particular software feature was introduced in a specific year, I would verify that information through an official source or another reliable reference.

This process is useful whether the content was written by AI or a human because factual accuracy matters in every article.

Check for Unnatural Phrases

Another sign I look for is unnatural wording.

Sometimes AI generated content uses phrases that are grammatically correct but do not sound like something a normal person would say. The text may contain overly formal expressions or repeated introductory phrases.

For example, an article may repeatedly use phrases such as “In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape” or “It is important to understand that” even when those phrases do not add much value.

These phrases alone do not prove AI authorship. They simply suggest that the writing could benefit from editing.

The best approach is to read the article aloud. When I read content aloud, awkward sentences and repetitive phrases become much easier to notice.

Compare Different Sections

Sometimes the writing style changes noticeably from one section to another.

For example, the introduction may sound personal and conversational, while the middle of the article suddenly becomes formal and generic. A sudden change in vocabulary, sentence length, or tone can be a reason to review the content.

This can happen when different sections are generated at different times or when AI content is combined with human writing.

However, style changes can also happen naturally when multiple writers contribute to the same article. Therefore, this is another indicator rather than definite proof.

Check the Content With Plagiarism Tools

AI detection and plagiarism checking are two different things.

An AI detector tries to estimate whether content may have been generated using artificial intelligence. A plagiarism checker looks for similarities between the submitted content and existing material.

When publishing online, I think both checks can be useful.

Even if content is original, it should still provide real value to readers. Simply changing a few words from existing content is not a good content strategy.

A useful article should explain information clearly and provide something meaningful to the reader.

Look at the Level of Detail

AI generated articles can sometimes be broad without being particularly useful.

For example, an article about improving website performance might say that users should “optimize images” or “improve loading speed” without explaining what those recommendations actually mean.

When checking content, I ask myself whether the article gives practical information.

Can the reader understand what to do next?

Are examples provided?

Are important points explained clearly?

Does the content answer the actual search intent?

These questions are more useful than simply asking whether the article sounds like AI.

Review the Introduction and Conclusion

The introduction and conclusion can also reveal weaknesses in AI generated content.

Some AI written articles begin with very general statements that could apply to almost any topic. The conclusion may then repeat the introduction without adding anything new.

A strong introduction should quickly tell the reader what they will learn. A strong conclusion should summarize the main idea naturally without unnecessary repetition.

When editing AI generated content, I usually focus on these areas because improving them can make the entire article feel more personal and useful.

Can AI Detectors Be 100 Percent Accurate?

No detection method should be considered perfect.

AI writing technology continues to change, and detection systems also have limitations. A piece of human writing can sometimes receive a high AI probability score, while AI assisted writing may appear human.

This is why I recommend using multiple signals.

Read the content manually.

Check important facts.

Review the writing style.

Use an AI detector as an additional reference.

Check originality where necessary.

Consider how much useful information the article actually provides.

Looking at these factors together gives a much better understanding than relying on a single score.

How to Make AI Assisted Content Better

If I use AI to help with an article, I do not prefer publishing the first generated version immediately. I review it and make changes based on the intended audience.

I remove unnecessary sentences, correct inaccurate information, add relevant examples, improve the structure, and include my own perspective where appropriate.

The goal should not simply be to make AI content “undetectable.” Instead, the goal should be to create useful content that readers can understand and trust.

AI can help with brainstorming, research organization, outlines, and first drafts. Human judgment is still important for fact checking, editing, context, and final decisions.

Final Thoughts

Checking AI generated content requires more than running an article through an AI detector. Detection tools can provide useful signals, but they should not be treated as unquestionable proof.

In my view, the most practical approach is to combine technology with human review. I would check the writing style, look for repetition, verify important facts, review sources, check originality, and make sure the content genuinely helps the reader.

AI is becoming a normal part of modern content creation. The important thing is learning how to use it responsibly while maintaining accuracy, originality, clarity, and value.

If you are publishing content on a website, the final article should feel useful to a real person first. Whether AI was involved in creating the first draft or not, quality should always be the main focus.
